Our History

Tollestrup Construction (2005) Inc. (TCI) is a proud Southern Alberta locally owned family company, for 80 years. TCI was originally started by Glenn Fredrick (GF) Tollestrup in 1940, operating under the name of Tollestrup Construction Company. At the time, GF was operating with very limited equipment and capable of local jobs. GF quickly earned an excellent reputation for his quality of work and completing jobs in a timely manner. Building on this, he was able to expand is equipment and extended his business throughout the province, including work in Magrath, Coleman, Invermere, Jasper, Banff, Rocky Mountain House, and Lloydminster.

In 1949, GF was eager to expand and innovate his business. While travelling through the Crowsnest Pass, he noticed large piles of coal refuse in the towns of Blairmore, Coleman, and Bellevue. Seeing an opportunity, he started investigating the possibility of processing this coal refuse to remove waste products, thereby producing a product that could then be sold. His investigation took him to Salt Lake City, where he acquired a plant from a company called Wemco. He placed this plant in Blairmore, where it operated until 1955, at which time it was sold to West Canadian Collieries.

Shortly after, GF once again expanded his business and purchased General Construction Company, ultimately becoming Tollestrup Sand and Gravel Company. Tollestrup Sand and Gravel Company became the leading supplier for crushed gravel and washed products in the area. In 1963, GF’s eldest son, Stephen Tollestrup, continued his father’s vision to expand and grow the company. Stephen was able to secure an asphalt plant, which propelled the company into the highway paving market. For the next eleven years, the company built and paved roads, from the Southern border of Alberta, to Slave Lake in the North, and from West of Red Deer, to Swift Current, Saskatchewan in the East.

A few years later, Tollestrup Construction Company and Tollestrup Sand and Gravel, merged to become known as what is today, Tollestrup Construction Inc. Today, TCI has grown to become a multidisciplinary road construction and concrete works company. As a local business, they are proud to employee over 120 employees, with various specialties, from engineers, technologists, and numerous support staff. TCI has expansive experience in the field, working on over 10,000 different projects – ranging from residential parking lots, to major highway construction.
